The Vision and Fusion Laboratory (IES) at KIT works in close collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB on multiple projects mostly related to automated visual inspection, probabilistic world modeling, and the human interaction with machines. Established in 2004 at the Informatics Department, the IES Laboratory is currently a subdivision of the Institute for Anthropomatics. The Head of the Laboratory, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Beyerer, is also the director of the Fraunhofer IOSB.
The IES laboratory has accumulated significant general expertise in the fields of information and signal processing, including the methods for pattern recognition, image and signal processing, sensor data fusion, robotics, as well as surveillance and controlling of industrial processes. The provided services range from the methodological R&D work in the above topics and the state-of-the-art/feasibility studies to consulting and systems analysis. The Laboratory regularly co-operates with industrial and institutional partners on publicly and privately funded projects.
